An Asean Communication Master Plan (ACMP) was launched during a dinner for Asean Ministers hosted in yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of Myanmar.

COmm Masterplan Asean The plan aims to provide greater knowledge and opportunities about the Asean Community and Asean Economic Community.

“As Asean is moving toward the realization of the Asean Community in 2015, and beyond to the celebration of ASEAN’s 50th anniversary in 2017, the peoples of Asean need to understand what it means to be part of an integrated region where there are shared, equitable opportunities for personal, business and community growth,” said Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of Asean in his opening remarks.

The ACMP will provide the framework to communicate messages about the character, structure and overall vision of Asean and the Asean Community to key audiences, including local communities of Asean Member States (AMS), women and children, youth, governments, businesses, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), influencers, media and global audiences.

The ACMP was developed by the Committee of Permanent Representatives, and its main objective is to articulate an overarching message of Asean as “A Community of Opportunities.”

According to its manual, the ACMP also envisions harnessing the growing sense of collective Asean mutual support and empowerment during times of natural disaster when Member States have bonded to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
